The claim is aimed at tarnishing my name, family and future, says Adam Rosly
PETALING JAYA: A politician has denied accusations that he abused his maid, while her country’s embassy announced that he has been barred from entering Indonesia.
In a statement, Datuk Adam Rosly Abdullah described the accusations as “strange, disgusting and irrational”, and aimed at tarnishing his name, his family and his future.
“She has defamed me by saying that I cruelly injured her and treated her horrendously. These are ill-intended accusations that were made by my domestic helper towards me,” Adam Rosly said in the statement.
He added that he and his family have cooperated with the police by giving statements and providing CCTV recordings that would refute these allegations.
“We have provided proof of how we have taken care of her health to show that we have always treated all our domestic helpers well,” he added.
In a separate statement, Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said a report was lodged on Aug 22 by the 54-year-old victim stating that she had been abused by a former politician and businessman.
“The investigation paper has been referred to the deputy public prosecutor, and several instructions have been given, which we are in the midst of completing to finish our investigation,” he said.
Meanwhile, Indonesian Ambassador to Malaysia Hermono said Adam Rosly has been blacklisted from entering Indonesia.
Besides the allegations of abuse, the politician is also accused of skirting the proper procedures when he hired the maid and of owing her unpaid wages.
“Yes, the politician has been placed on the blacklist. The politician should also show evidence that he applied for her permit and paid the salary of his maid.
“The maid also claimed that her passport is with her previous employer,” said Hermono when contacted.
He added that there is no record of the woman’s passport in Indonesia’s own immigration system.
“Which means she could not have had a work permit from the Malaysian authorities,” he said, adding that a lawyer has already been appointed to represent her.
It is also an offence in Malaysia to hire or harbour an undocumented migrant worker.
The maid, who has not been named, is currently under the protection of the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur.
“Yes, she is currently being given protection at the embassy,” said Hermono.
In Sepang, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said he will leave it to the police to investigate these allegations.
“I will need to check and verify first if he is a member of PKR, and if he is a member, the party has a process we need to carry out,” said Saifuddin Nasution, who is also PKR secretary-general.
