King and Queen visit ‘Didi’ and ‘Taburi’ during Sepilok stop

SANDAKAN: The “Kembara Kenali Borneo” royal entourage made its first stop yesterday at the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, which is located about 25km from here.

Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, as well as the royal convoy, visited the centre, which is a globally renowned sanctuary and conservation centre for the endangered orang utan species, en route to central Sabah.

The King and Queen received a warm welcome from enthusiastic Sabahans who lined the roadside in anticipation of a chance to interact with the royal couple.

Upon their arrival, the King and Queen fed a Borneoan pygmy elephant calf named “Taburi”, while a young orang utan received the honour of being named “Didi” by Tunku Azizah.

The royal couple then signed a name plaque for the orang utan.
