PUTRAJAYA: Blood pressure monitors, condoms, digital thermometers and medical test-kits are among the unregistered items seized by the Medical Devices Authority (MDA) this year.
Its chief executive Dr Muralitharan Paramasua said these medical devices and products, worth some RM500,000, were seized in five raids conducted across the country.
"As of today (Sept 6), a total of seven companies have had their licenses revoked for selling unregistered medical devices.
"These companies will also be charged in court under the Medical Device Act (Act 737), which requires all medical devices manufactured, imported or distributed in Malaysia to be registered," he said after the signing ceremony between MDA and Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (Mampu) here on Wednesday (Sept 6).

On the upgrading of the Health Ministry’s Medical Device Centralised Online Application System (MeDC@St), Muralitharan said it would improve monitoring on the selling and registration of medical devices and products in the country.
"Every medical device in the local market must be registered under MDA. With the improvement of the system it will curb the sale of counterfeit and unlicensed medical devices.
"Our current data has all the registered medical devices suppliers.
"The system will also be improved to speed up and ease the registration process for suppliers whereby previously it took between 30 to 90 days for an application (depending on device category) to be approved," he said.
MeDC@St is an online platform for companies and the public to register devices, apply for permits or provide feedback on medical devices in the country.
