MUAR: The awareness among voters about the ongoing Simpang Jeram by-election has increased significantly as polling day draws closer, says Pakatan Harapan candidate Nazri Abdul Rahman.
"Earlier in the campaign, there were indeed many who were unaware of the Simpang Jeram by-election. However, we have since been putting up more posts on social media and further intensifying our campaign. This has helped to raise awareness among voters," said Nazri.
He said this after having a Zumba session with the people of Taman Indah here on Wednesday (Sept 6).
Nazri, who is in a three-cornered fight against Perikatan Nasional's candidate, Dr Mazri Yahya and independent candidate S. Jeganathan, also expressed his confidence that outstation voters will return home to vote in this election.
"I believe those with children working in other cities have called them to return home and vote. Their efforts, coupled with our social media campaign, will help to increase voter turnout come polling day," he said.
The Star had previously reported that many Pulai and Simpang Jeram voters were still unaware of a by-election in their constituencies, despite political activists knocking on doors and canvassing markets and coffee shops.
Workers for the main political coalitions contesting these two seats said they have even come across individuals unaware that they are registered voters who will decide the fate of the two seats on Sept 9.
