Teen hurt in electric substation fire in Sandakan

KOTA KINABALU: A teenager was hurt after an electric substation caught fire in Sandakan district.

The 14-year-old, identified only as Mustakim, sustained burns on his face, body, arms and legs following the 1pm incident on Wednesday (Sept 6).

Sandakan Fire Station chief Severinus Sainkui said they received a call about the incident around 1.06pm, near the closed down Borneo Golf Hotel at Kampung Forest.

"There was a report about an explosion at the substation. When our team arrived, we were then told that a boy was injured," he said when contacted.

He said the boy was taken to the hospital for treatment after that.

Asked what the boy was doing at the scene, Severinus said the boy did not want to tell them anything.

He said operations to put out the fire and other matters ended at 1.42pm.
