Teenage abuse victim recuperating at hospital

SEGAMAT: An abuse victim with burn injuries on her head and body is recuperating at the hospital here.

The 18-year-old orphan, who was under the care of her elder sister, received a surprise visit from Segamat MP R. Yuneswaran on Tuesday (Sept 5).

Yuneswaran said the teenager had injuries on the face, ears, thighs and buttock after being hurt with a hot fork and sickle.

Although she was still traumatised by the incident, her condition is stable, he added.

"She told me that all her other family members are in Kedah and I will assist her to get back to them if that is what she wants.

"If she chooses to stay in Johor, I will help to put her up at a Welfare Department shelter, I leave the decision to her," he said.

A four-minutes video showing the injuries suffered by the teenager has been making rounds on social media, causing anger among netizens.

At a court on Sunday (Sept 3), her alleged abuser, a close family member in the 20s, pleaded not guilty to a charge of causing harm with a weapon under Section 324 of the Penal Code.
