MUAR: It will be up to the people to decide what they think of the High Court’s decision on the case of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi when they go to vote in the Pulai and Simpang Jeram by-elections this Saturday, says Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
Annuar, who is the former Barisan Nasional and Umno secretary-general, said the court’s decision, in which Ahmad Zahid was granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) on Monday, has affected the credibility of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“We have a separation of powers between the judiciary, executive and legislative branches.
“But in this case, the decision (to discharge but not acquit Ahmad Zahid) was made by the Attorney General’s Chambers, which is under the executive branch,” he told reporters after speaking at a Perikatan Nasional ceramah in Jalan Abdullah Selatan here on Tuesday night.
Ahmad Zahid was discharged of 12 criminal breach of trust (CBT) charges, eight counts of bribery and 27 for money laundering, involving millions of ringgit belonging to Yayasan Akalbudi, by the High Court on Monday.
In George Town, Gerakan president Dominic Lau said Perikatan has a chance of winning both seats in the Johor by-elections based on feedback gathered from the ground.
Lau, who is Perikatan deputy chairman, claimed the locals were disappointed with the High Court’s decision.
