KOTA KINABALU: The body of a man was found in a run-down shack at the Kayu Madang landfill in Telipok near here on Wednesday (Sept 6).

A rubbish collector had found the maggot-infested body and subsequently notified the Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK).

Kota Kinabalu Police Chief Asst Comm Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said they received a call about the discovery at 12.30pm and found the man's fully-clothed body after searching the site.

He added that an assessment of the body of the man who was found lying face-up by medical officers determined that he had been dead for more than a day due to the presence of the maggots and said that he is believed to be in his 30s.

"The witness (who found the victim) did not know the man but has often seen him collect rubbish at the landfill and stayed at the shack,” ACP Mohd Zaidi said, on Thursday (Sept 7).

A further check by the police forensics unit found no foul play, he added.

He said the body has been sent to the hospital for a postmortem to ascertain the man’s cause of death.
