KUALA SELANGOR: A young child escaped with only light injuries after being struck by a car that reversed at a high speed.
Kuala Selangor deputy OCPD Deputy Supt Mohd Ambia Nordin, in a statement yesterday, said the incident occurred on Tuesday in Jalan Eco Grandeur 1/8, Puncak Alam.
“At the time, the driver, in his 30s, intended to reverse into a parking space in front of a pet food store, but he accidentally stepped on the accelerator pedal, causing the car to reverse at high speed. The car hit a five-year-old girl who was walking along the pathway and also the shop’s front entrance.
“The girl was brought to hospital for treatment after sustaining light injuries to the face. She was discharged from the Universiti Teknologi Mara hospital in Puncak Alam at 8.30am yesterday after her condition was deemed stable,” he said.
“The driver’s statement has already been recorded.”
A video of the incident, which shows a yellow car crashing into the girl and a shop after suddenly reversing at high speed, has gone viral on social media. Several other people were nearby at the time, but they were able to avoid the car.
