IGP: Probe on 3R issues not politically motivated

KUALA LUMPUR: The Inspector-General of Police has dismissed the notion that investigations into issues related to Race, Religion and Royalty (3R) were politically motivated.

"The notion that the police are following instructions of politicians is not true.

"We have been consistent in taking action against those who touched on 3R matters.

"Even the previous government administration also called for 3R issues not to be touched as it could disrupt public order," Tan Sri Razarudin Husain told a press conference after officiating the 4th National Forensic Symposium for Law Enforcement at the Royal Malaysia Police College on Thursday (Sept 7).

He was asked to comment on allegations that police action on 3R cases involved hidden political hands.

The IGP said the police would continue to take stern action on those harping on 3R issues.

"We will not give any space for 3R issues to be played up by anyone, including issues on religion and race that could jeopardise the nation's harmony," he said.

Recently, Razarudin said an individual known as Imam Mustaqim was jailed nine months after he failed to pay the fine imposed by the court over a 3R case.

"We will take action without fear or favour on anyone who touches on 3R matters," he said.

Razarudin said he was satisfied with the performance of the police's 3R task force.

"It currently has 32 officers and personnel.

"They have been up to par in completing the investigation within seven days.

"After submitting the investigation papers to the Attorney-General's Chambers, we will receive further advice and action that must be followed up, especially on forensic and data preservation," he said.
