Arrest warrant issued against Bersatu Youth permanent chairman Akmal Zahin for court no-show

MELAKA: An arrest warrant has been issued by the Melaka election court against Bersatu’s youth wing (Armada Nasional) permanent chairman Akmal Zahin Zainal Zahir, for failing to attend a court proceeding in which he was supposed to testify.

The warrant was issued by High Court judge Datuk Abu Bakar Katar after Akmal Zahin failed to show up for Friday’s (Sept 8) proceeding in the election petition case for the Masjid Tanah parliamentary seat.

He was ordered to testify over bribery allegations during the 15th General Election (GE15).

A video of Akmal Zahin giving voters an envelope which allegedly contained cash was submitted in court during the trial.

Another arrest warrant was issued by the same court against Masjid Tanah MP Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsuddin’s former private secretary Noor Hashimah Noordin for failing to attend as a subpoena witness.

The elections court has set a new date on Sept 11 for both witnesses to attend the proceeding.

Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Masjid Tanah parliamentary constituency Abdul Hakim Abdul filed a petition at the Melaka Election Court on Feb 7 to nullify Mas Ermieyati’s victory.

However, this was eventually struck out after the court accepted the preliminary objection raised by the respondent.

Abdul Hakim then filed an appeal against the election court’s decision.

On May 2, the Federal Court overturned the decision and ordered the election petition that was filed to challenge the GE15 results of the Masjid Tanah parliamentary constituencies to be sent back to the High Courts for a full hearing of the merits.
