Gagasan Rakyat unfazed by Sabah Bersatu's plan to 'seize back' state, says Hajiji

KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor is unfazed by Sabah Bersatu's ambitions to regain control of the state government they lost following a spate of defections last year.

The Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah president and Sabah Chief Minister said they have already garnered 300,000 members statewide, proving his party was is favoured by many.

"That is their (Sabah Bersatu's) big ambition, let them be. We are not threatened.

"If you look at membership numbers, Gagasan Rakyat is favourably received in Sabah.

"We managed to get 300,000 members in a few months the party's formation," he said after chairing the party supreme council meeting here on Friday (Sept 8).

Hajiji was asked to comment on Sabah Bersatu secretary Abdul Kadir Damsal earlier this week who claimed that their party is back with new leaders and committees set up at division level, as they gear up to regain the seats lost due to defections.

Abdul Kadir said that Sabah Bersatu's grassroots remain intact and the party have reorganised at both branch and division levels to strengthen their position.

Sabah Bersatu was the backbone of the Sabah government which was formed after the 2020 state polls but after GE15, all its assemblymen including Hajiji, left to form Gagasan Rakyat.

In a related development, Hajiji said the supreme council decided that meetings for 73 party divisions in Sabah will start from Sept 23 to Oct 15.

The party's first general assembly will follow suit on Nov 13 and 14, to be held at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC).

"We have also decided to form a party division in Labuan island," said Hajiji, adding that Rosli Awang Damit had been appointed as division chief and a committee also set up.
