No space for 3R issues

KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain (pic) has dismissed the notion that investigations into issues related to race, religion and royalty (3R) were politically motivated or carried out under the directive of some politicians.

He said such investigations were carried out on people from all segments of society who touched on 3R, not just politicians.

“We have been consistent in taking action against those who touched on 3R matters and it doesn’t matter which political party is leading the government.

“Even the previous government administration also called for 3R issues not to be touched as it could disrupt public order,” he told reporters after opening the Fourth National Forensic Symposium for Law Enforcement at the Royal Malaysia Police College yesterday.

He was asked to comment on claims on social media that the action by police on 3R cases were allegedly carried out on the orders of politicians.

Razarudin said police would continue to take stern action on those harping on 3R issues.

“We will not give any space for 3R issues to be played up by anyone that can jeopardise the nation’s harmony,” he said.

On the investigation involving Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Razarudin said the appointment to record the statement of the Perikatan Nasional chairman had been postponed to next Tuesday.

He said Muhyiddin had requested for the postponement.

The authorities are investigating him on his speech during a ceramah where he was reported to have uttered the remarks that it was “haram” to vote for the Pakatan Harapan candidate during a ceramah at Taman Kempas in Johor on Sept 2.

He also said the investigation paper (IP) involving PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang had been submitted to the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC).

“The investigation has been completed. We will wait for further instructions from the AGC regarding the case,” he said.

Abdul Hadi allegedly made remarks during a ceramah in Muar that disputed the Pardons Board’s granting of pardons that were said to be unIslamic.

A Bukit Aman officer recorded a statement from him at the PAS headquarters on Monday.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay had said the PAS president answered five of the 24 questions asked.

“The remaining he said he will answer in court. He is being investigated under the Sedition Act and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act,” he said.

Razarudin said the investigation paper on Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who had allegedly touched on 3R issues, was submitted to the AGC two days ago.

Recently, he said an individual known as Imam Mustaqim was jailed nine months after he failed to pay the fine imposed by the court in relation to 3R matter.

He said the police’s 3R task force had 32 personnel and officers.
