Remember what we sacrificed for Muda, DAP man tells Syed Saddiq

PETALING JAYA: Calling DAP a "lapdog" shows that Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has forgotten the loyalty and support shown to him, says the party's Johor vice chairman Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali.

Syed Saddiq had been vocal with his criticism since Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) in the Yayasan Akalbudi graft trial on Monday (Sept 4).

On Thursday (Sept 7), DAP vice-chairman Nga Kor Ming said the Muda president should bring up his concerns privately with the unity government leadership instead of making public statements.

The same day, Syed Saddiq described DAP as a "lapdog" of Ahmad Zahid.

Sheikh Umar, who is also a DAP central executive committee member, said he was disappointed with Syed Saddiq for his comments.

“For me, this is too much,” Sheikh Umar said in a statement on Friday (Sept 8).

“Nga’s statement was neutral. But Syed Saddiq’s response shows the Muda leadership's ego."

He said Syed Saddiq should remember DAP’s sacrifices and cooperation with Muda during good and bad times, especially during the Johor state polls in March last year.

“To me, Syed Saddiq should not make such accusations against DAP,” he said, adding that Nga's remarks merely urged Muda to take a reasonable approach.

He said Syed Saddiq, as an MP supporting the unity government, should have used the proper channels to voice his complaints instead of making public attacks.

In a post on social media platform X on Thursday, Syed Saddiq also said it was Nga who once accused Ahmad Zahid of being corrupt.

"Hypocritical. Power-crazy. No principles," he said in his post.
