KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government will look into the request to raise the monthly allowances of the Community Development Leader Unit (UPPM) staff, says Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
"We will look into it. But all must work hard to help realise the government's development agenda," the Sabah Chief Minister said in his keynote address to 73 community development leaders during a ceremony in conjunction with UPPM Family Day on Friday night (Sept 8).
UPPM director Datuk Awang Kadin Tang made the request during his welcoming speech earlier.
Meanwhile, Hajiji took the opportunity to urge community development leaders to be creative and innovative in improving their existing work processes in this day of sophisticated technology, where information can be easily obtained and distributed.
As the bridge between the government and the grassroots, he said they must be proactive in information sharing and problem-solving that would boost their image and service quality in the eyes of the people.
They have also been entrusted to achieve the government's development aspiration through the Sabah Maju Jaya development plan.
Besides efficiency and effective delivery system, they also must show a high level of professionalism and discipline in providing the best service to the people.
"My hope is that the problems and needs of the people can be resolved and met.
"They must provide the best service to the grassroots, regardless of political ideologies.
"This will ensure that everyone in the community can enjoy the services and facilities provided by the government and no one is sidelined.
"You must always hold steadfast to the principles of integrity and transparency, always prioritising the organisation's interests," he said, calling for these leaders to work closely with the elected representatives in their respective areas.
