Shut out the lies, pick candidates who can serve you well, Zahid tells Pulai, Simpang Jeram voters

JOHOR BARU: With less than 24 hours to go before polling day, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has reminded Pulai voters to pick a candidate who can serve them well.

"Do not listen to the lies, accusations, propaganda and all the 'poison'. I believe the people in Johor are mature voters," he said in his speech before launching the state-level Madani Siaga program held at PPR Melana Indah 2 here on Friday (Sept 8).

The Umno president added that after the by-election, all politicians including himself would leave Pulai constituency.

He added that the unity government candidate, Suhaizan Kayat, is supported by Pulai Umno division chief Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed and they both can work together to overcome issues in the constituency.

The Pulai by-election was triggered by the demise of Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, who was Pulai MP, Simpang Jeram assemblyman as well as domestic trade and cost of living minister.

The Pulai constituency will see a three-cornered fight between Pakatan Harapan's Suhaizan, Perikatan Nasional's Zulkifli Yahya and Independent candidate Samsudin Mohamad Fauzi.

In the 15th General Election, Salahuddin successfully defended the seat with a 33,174-vote majority against Barisan Nasional's Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed (31,726 votes) and Loh Kah Yong from Perikatan Nasional (20,677 votes).

Polling day for both constituencies is on Saturday (Sept 9).
