Pulai by-election: Media personnel don't miss out on chance to cast ballots

JOHOR BARU: Seven media practitioners, including a photographer for The Star's Johor bureau, did not miss out on the chance to cast their votes during the Pulai parliamentary by-election here on Saturday (Sept 9).

Photographer Thomas Yong, 57, said he cast his vote at SA Ibnu Khaldun Taman Perling 1 at noon, right after his assignment was over.

"I was tasked with covering Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay's press conference at the English College at 10am.

"So after that assignment was over, I rushed to the polling centre to vote," he said, adding that the trip was not as hectic as in previous elections as the roads were clear.

Yong, who has been a photographer since 1985, said that he hoped whoever was chosen as the Pulai MP would be able to ensure that the country remained prosperous.

Also casting their vote were media practitioners from Media Prima - Farid Noh, Izlaily Hussein, and Nur Aisyah Mazalan, who cast their ballots at the SK Pengkalan Rinting, SA Bandar Johor Baru, and SK Taman Tampoi Indah polling centres.

For Nur Aisyah, polling day is extra special, as she is also celebrating her 35th birthday and her seventh wedding anniversary together with her husband, Firdaus Adnan, 34.

The photographer, with 11 years of experience in the media industry, said she was proud to exercise her rights as a citizen on her birthday this year.

Besides the Media Prima personnel, the other three media practitioners who cast their ballots were TV Sarawak cameraman Yahya Kiprawi, Bernama TV cameraman Mohd Fuad Hashim, and Johor Media Club president Mohd Fauzi Ishak.
