12 detained during gambling call centre raid in KL


KUALA LUMPUR: Six local and six foreign men were detained following a raid at an illegal gambling call centre in the city.

Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Amihizam Abdul Shukor said the suspects, aged 19 to 37, were detained in an operation on Friday (Sept 8).

"We seized several items, including four computers, five laptops, 19 mobile phones and two passports.

"We believe the syndicate promoted gambling online.

"They were targeting victims from Bangladesh," he said in a statement on Sunday (Sept 10). All suspects will be remanded for further investigation, he said.

"They were working as administrators and customer service officers," he added.

ACP Amihizam advised the public to report any scam to the National Scam Response Center (NSRC) via the 997 hotline.

"We also urge those with information on any illegal activity to contact the Brickfields police hotline at 03-22979222, the KL police hotline at 03-21460584/0585 of any nearest police station," he said.
