Immigration collects RM3.7bil

KUALA LUMPUR: Almost RM4bil in revenue has been collected by the Immigration Department this year, says the Home Ministry secretary-general.

Datuk Ruji Ubi said as of Aug 31, a total of RM3.7bil had been collected by the department in the form of levies and its recalibration programme, among others.

“The department will continue to be consistent in collecting revenue for the nation’s coffers,” he said in his speech at the graduation ceremony of Immigration cadets here yesterday.

Apart from this, Ruji said the department also detained 40,259 undocumented immigrants and 203 employers between Jan 1 and Aug 31.

“A total of 66,551 individuals were inspected in 5,799 operations. Security and law enforcement have always been the priorities of Immigration, which is committed to wiping out illegal foreigners,” he added.

Ruji said the ministry supported the efforts by the Immigration Department to enhance its human resources and organisational structure to add more posts so that the chances of promotions and career advancement were higher.

The graduation ceremony saw the passing out of 301 cadets, who underwent training from July 3 to Sept 9.
