SMK Suria Perdana gets additional funding after a decade of service

PETALING JAYA: A further RM30,000 is allocated to SMK Suria Perdana in Batu Pahat, Johor, to build a facade with Semarang cultural features.

Ayer Hitam MP Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, who announced it, said the school, which opened in 2013, currently has over 600 students, which is expected to grow.

"The relatively new school is the result of my time as a Deputy Education Minister from 2007 to 2013.

"At that time, there was only one SMK school in Ayer Hitam town and its surrounding areas, which was SMK Dauk Menteri," he said on Facebook on Sunday (Sept 10).

He said that in 2008, the school's number of students had exceeded 2,000, and it was running out of space to accommodate more.

"After working for more than a year, the government approved an allocation of RM32.7mil to build SMK Suria Perdana, located about 3km from SMK Datuk Menteri.

"In January 2013, SMK Suria Perdana was opened and began operations," he said.

Dr Wee said that at that time, only four Form One and Form Two classes were available, and there were only around 100.

"Right now, the school has over 600 students," he said after officiating the school's Karnival 1 Dekad SUPER to mark the school's 10th anniversary on Sunday.

Dr Wee, also MCA president, said the RM30,000 allocation would be channelled to the school's Parent-Teacher Association to build the Semarang cultural facade.
