Woman killed, six others injured in six-vehicle pile-up on NSE


NIBONG TEBAL: A woman was killed in an accident involving two trailers and four cars at KM164.8 northbound on the North-South Expressway (NSE) between Bukit Minyak and Sungai Bakap.

State Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said one victim was also critically injured, five victims suffered minor injuries while 14 others including the two drivers of the trailers escaped without injuries.

"The accident that occurred at about 4am, caused one of the trailers, which was loaded with timber to overturn and block the highway.

"It also has caused several of the victims in the cars to be trapped during the accident," said the spokesman.

The spokesman said in total there were 21 victims involved in the accident that caused traffic congestion for about three hours.

He said the firemen used rescue tools to rescue the trapped victims and those who were rescued were sent to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Operation is still ongoing to ensure that there were no victims trapped in the pile of wood from the overturned trailer.
