MACC to call up Sanusi over REE mining probe

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will summon Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor within the next few days over the alleged theft of rare earth elements (REE), says Tan Sri Azam Baki.

The MACC chief commissioner said the Kedah Mentri Besar would be called in either this or next week.

"We are at the tail end of the investigation into the case," he said at a session with media editors on Monday (Sept 11).

The MACC had initiated investigations over power abuse allegations involving REE mining in Kedah, believed to have been conducted illegally.

On July 20, Azam had said his officers were tracking down several other witnesses, including Chinese nationals who had allegedly invested in the REE mining project in Sik, Kedah.

MACC has called 12 witnesses in relation to the case.
