Teen killed while changing tyre

PASIR GUDANG: A teenager was killed after being run over by a car while changing his tyre here.

Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the incident occurred at Jalan Persisiran Seri Alam at 8.15am on Thursday when the 18-year-old was on his way to work in Taman Daya.

“The victim noticed that his right tyre was deflated and decided to stop by the side of the road to change his tyre.

“He had also placed a spare tyre about 10m from his location as an indication to other drivers.

“However, another vehicle, driven by a 23-year-old man, suddenly rammed into the victim and his car, causing the victim to be flung onto the middle of the road,” he said in a statement yesterday.

The victim suffered a serious injury to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene, Supt Mohd Sohaimi added.

“The driver of the second vehicle suffered an injury to his forehead and is being treated at Hospital Sultan Ismail in Johor Baru.

“The cause of the accident was because the driver was unaware that a vehicle had broken down in front of him,” he said.

In an unrelated incident, a 19-year-old pillion rider was killed while the rider was injured after the motorcycle crashed into a road divider at KM0.33 Jalan Sungai Boh-Sungai Pulai, Pontian.

Pontian OCPD Supt Mohammad Shofee Tayib said the incident occurred at 10.30pm on Friday after the 18-year-old male rider lost control of his motorcycle.

“The duo were heading towards Sungai Pulai before the motorcycle suddenly veered onto the left side of the road and crashed into the divider.

“The impact caused the pillion rider to be flung to the side of the road, where she suffered a serious head injury while the rider suffered minor injury,” he said, adding that victim had been sent to Pontian Hospital.
