Ex-GLC senior manager detained over fake claims in Tawau

KOTA KINABALU: Graft busters have arrested a former senior manager of a government-linked company (GLC) for allegedly submitting fake claims over three maintenance projects not implemented in Tawau.

The man, in his 40s, was arrested at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Tawau office at 10.30am on Tuesday (Sept 12).

It was learned the suspect had submitted claims worth some RM26,000 between November 2017 and January 2018.

An agency source said the man had ordered a company to undertake work to replace pipes at a company manufacturing palm oil-based products.

The projects were, however, never carried out.

The suspect was later released on RM5,000 bail with one local surety.

When contacted, Sabah MACC director Datuk S Karunanithy said the suspect is expected to be charged at the Tawau Sessions Court on Wednesday (Sept 13).
