Pillion rider killed in three-vehicle accident in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: A 34-year-old pillion rider was killed when the motorcycle she was on met with an accident with a lorry and a four-wheel drive vehicle here on Monday (Sept 11).

Kota Kinabalu acting OCPD Supt Kalsom Idris said the accident happened at 8.20am on Jalan Pulutan, Menggatal here.

"The deceased's husband was in control of the motorcycle. She suffered head injuries and was pronounced dead at Likas Hospital at 10.10am.

"The husband, 29, sustained minor injuries and is being treated at Queen Elizabeth Hospital 1, while the two other vehicle drivers did not suffer any injuries," said Kalsom in a statement here on Tuesday (Sept 12).

Initial investigations found that the lorry driven by a 47-year-old man was coming from the direction of Kampung Pulutan and heading towards a workshop.

Upon reaching the workshop, he was about to make a right turn when the motorcycle collided into the side of the lorry.

The impact caused the motorcycle to swerve to the right, hitting a 4WD vehicle parked at the side of the road.

"Investigations continue under section 41(1) of Road Transport Act 1987 (for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving)," she added.
