AS MARKETS reopen following the last three years of lockdowns, many are looking for good investment opportunities – especially if they appear to be endorsed by a regulatory body like Bank Negara.
Recently several people in the 'wild' have reported receiving letters from Bank Negara offering access to an online investment platform guaranteed by the central bank.
However, these letters look fishy, are they actually from scammers misusing Bank Negara's name and logo?
Verdict:
TRUE
In a post on Bank Negara's Facebook page, the central bank acknowledges that unscrupulous individuals have misused its name, logo and even senior officer's names to peddle fake financial services.
"Don't be fooled by letters that seem official," read the post dated Sept 8.
"The misuse of letters and identities of Bank Negara Malaysia staff for fraud purposes is on the rise.
"Remember, Bank Negara will never ask for money from the public," it added.
The post then went on to urge the public to report if they had received such letters to bnmlink.bnm.gov.my or or call 1-300-88-5465.
