PETALING JAYA: A top-scorer from a B40 family who had appealed for help to gain admission to a public university of his choice has gotten the attention of Deputy Health Minister Lukanisman Awang Sauni (pic).

M. Thasvenraj from Ampang, who scored 9 As in his SPM in 2021 and a CGPA 4.0 in both semesters in his matriculation programme this year said he was only offered a place for Medical Imaging course in Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UNISZA), which was his fifth choice of university and wished he was offered the first choice in Universiti Malaya (UM) instead.

Thasvenraj, who claims to be from a low-income family and with a single mother, had appealed for help from Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail and other politicians on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

“Please help me to write a support letter for my appeal to the Central University Admission Unit (UPU) to enrol in Universiti Malaya’s Faculty of Medicine.”

Lukanisman was among other those who responded to the tweet to clarify the matter and asked Thasvenraj to send him a direct message instead.

In the comments, Thasvenraj also revealed that his second, third and fourth choices were for admission into medical faculties in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) respectively.
