SEREMBAN: A 22-year-old food delivery rider lodged a false report claiming he was robbed of RM9,000 by four men near here when, in actuality, he did not have enough money to proceed with his upcoming wedding ceremony.
Seremban OCPD Asst Com Arifai Tarawe said the man had lodged a report around 10.30pm on Sept 12 alleging that he was robbed near a temple in Rantau.
"Upon questioning, we discovered that the robbery did not occur and that he only wanted to postpone his wedding as he did not have enough money.
"He will now be probed for lodging a false report," he said in a statement.
ACP Arifai said checks showed the man had no previous criminal or drug-related charges.
In a separate case, he said a 39-year-old contractor also lodged a false report claiming that he was robbed by two men in front of the Permai food court here at around 8.45pm on the same day.
In his report, the man claimed he lost valuables and his identity card in the incident.
"After we probed the matter, the man admitted that the robbery did not occur and that he lodged a false report so that he would not have to pay a fine to make another identity card.
"We also discovered that prior to this, the man had lodged four reports related to the loss of his identity card," said ACP Arifai.
A urine test on the man came back positive for methamphetamine abuse.
He said both cases are being probed under Section 182 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to six months or a fine of up to RM2,000 or both upon conviction.
