KL cops to conduct second phase of 'Respect Traffic Laws' ops

KUALA LUMPUR: City police will conduct the second phase of "Respect Traffic Laws" operation starting Friday (Sept 15), says Comm Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid.

The Kuala Lumpur police chief said the latest operation will be conducted until Sept 29.

"We will be focusing on 16 locations in the city.

"Among the locations are the junctions of Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Ampang, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Sultan Ismail and Jalan Raja Laut," he told reporters after a walkabout near Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock on Wednesday (Sept 13).

Some 1,000 police officers and personnel will be involved in the operation, Comm Allaudeen said.

"We will also work with other agencies including the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

"Our focus is on seven main offences including illegal parking, running a red light, stopping on pedestrian walkway and illegal number plates and vehicle tints," he said.

The operation was a continuation of a similar operation, which was conducted from July 1 until July 31, he said.

"The last operation resulted in 157,000 summonses issued.

"The response from the public was encouraging," he added.

Comm Allaudeen said the operation also aimed at educating the public to not forsake traffic regulations and signs.

"It is for the safety of all road users.

"We will not compromise in taking action against any party who commit traffic offences," he said.
