No road tax, no insurance: JPJ seizes food delivery rider's motorcycle

SEREMBAN: Road Transport Department (JPJ) personnel seized a motorcycle belonging to a food delivery rider during an operation in Nilai near here as the machine had neither a valid road tax nor insurance cover.

The JPJ in a statement said its officers had no other option but to seize the bike to ensure the safety of the rider and other road users.

It said this in response to a 17-second clip, which had gone viral on social media, showing a delivery rider walking away with the food basket after his motorcycle was seized by JPJ officers on Tuesday (Sept 12).

"The decision to seize his motorcycle was only to safeguard the rider's safety as well as that of other road users as the machine did not have insurance cover.

"The JPJ views such offences seriously and appropriate action will be taken to safeguard the safety of other road users," it said.

The JPJ said its officers had also taken action against other motorists who had violated the relevant laws during the operation carried out along Jalan Persiaran Negeri.

Netizens had generally criticised the JPJ for seizing the delivery rider's machine with some saying they should have been considerate and by letting off the rider with a warning.
