Sarawak-based Parti Sedar Rakyat to go national

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Sedar Rakyat (Sedar) has renamed itself in its bid to expand nationally.

Party president Datuk Othman Abdillah said they had received the approval to go national from the Registrar of Societies (ROS) on Aug 7.

He said the amendment to the party constitution to change its name from Parti Sedar Rakyat Sarawak was approved by party members at its annual general congress on Aug 27, 2022.

"With the official approval of the ROS, the party immediately approved applications for memberships from outside Sarawak.

"For Sabah, the party has appointed Prof Ariffin Willie and Julia Ongkili to lead the way towards forming the Sabah branch," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Sept 13).

Othman explained the decision to go national was due to the interest and support in Sabah, Kelantan and Terengganu.

He believed that this expansion would allow the party to further its mission of advocating for the rights of the people to benefit directly from the wealth generated by the exploitation of their rich resources, especially the oil and gas sector.

"Sedar invites all concerned citizens, community leaders, and advocates for economic justice to join us in this important journey towards a more equitable and prosperous future for all," said Othman.
