Talk of Umno booting out Isham just idle chatter, says supreme council member

KUALA LUMPUR: An Umno supreme council member has brushed aside talk that fellow supreme council member Isham Jalil will be booted out of the party.

"Rumours are just rumours. It's not true," said the source on Wednesday (Sept 13).

The Umno supreme council will be meeting later tonight.

An English daily reported that Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had refuted claims that Isham would be expelled from the party for being too outspoken.

Zahid, who is also Barisan Nasional chairman, was also quoted as saying that Isham was trying to "outsmart" him with such allegations.

This came after Isham claimed that he and several other Umno members could be sacked from the party for criticism of the party leadership for working with Pakatan Harapan.

Isham said he was not dissuaded by such talk.

"It is up to the party leadership and the council if they want to fire me. My struggle has been sincere towards religion, race and country instead of personal gain," he said in a Facebook post on Monday (Sept 11).
