PETALING JAYA: Tributes have been pouring in for veteran TV3 newscaster Raymond Goh (pic), who passed away yesterday at the age of 62.
He had been in critical condition after suffering a stroke last month.
“The broadcasting industry will miss Raymond (Goh), and his contributions will never be forgotten,” Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said in expressing his condolences to Goh’s family on X, the platform previously known as Twitter.
Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said Goh, who was a newscaster on TV3’s Nightline news bulletin, was known as the “man with the golden voice”.
“He had been involved in broadcasting since TV3 was first formed. I was the fourth prime minister at the time. He will be remembered as one of the legendary newscasters of our time,” he added.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he was saddened by the death of Goh, who was a friend and an English broadcasting trainer.
“The nation’s broadcasting world has lost a jewel. His voice and newscasting will never be forgotten,” he said.
Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil sent condolences to Goh’s family and said he hopes they would remain strong through this trying time.
A former TV3 colleague, Datuk Ras Adiba Radzi, also offered a prayer for Goh. She said they developed a close relationship with each other as the first batch of TV3’s news anchors.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said expressed regret over Goh’s death and asked people to pray for him and his family.
“May God grant (his) family strength. Let’s say a prayer for him so he will be among those who are loved by God,” she said.
Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said Goh was a humble man with a lot of experience.
“You will surely be missed by many. May you be placed among those who are pious,” he said.
Goh, whose Muslim name was Muhammad Zaman Goh Abdullah, passed away at 10.40am yesterday and was laid to rest at the Bukit Kiara Muslim Cemetery.
His wife, Faridah Teh, released an official statement on WhatsApp confirming his death.
Goh had more than 30 years’ newscasting experience and had been conducting training on how to speak well.
He recently participated in the #BacaBeritaChallengeTV3 on TikTok, which garnered the attention of many Malaysians who said they missed his voice.
