Trader dies in fight, construction worker arrested in Taiping

IPOH: A trader in his 50s has been found dead in front of a convenience store in Pokok Assam, Taiping after he was involved in a fight.

Taiping OCPD Asst Comm Razlam Ab Hamid said the police received a call about the matter at 4.15pm on Tuesday (Sept 12).

He said a construction worker, in his 40s, was arrested on the same day.

"We also seized a motorcycle helmet and three wooden sticks.

"The labourer also tested positive for morphine," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Sept 13).

ACP Razlam said police have obtained a remand order for the suspect from Sept 13 to 19 to facilitate investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

He said the post-mortem examination conducted at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital forensics unit here found the cause of death to be "coronary atherosclerosis with associated soft tissue injuries".

"There was also bruising on the victim's arm.

"The police urge those with information about any crimes to come forward to the police to help us combat crime," he added.
