Cops should allow 'Save Malaysia' rally to go on, says DAP MP

KUALA LUMPUR: A DAP lawmaker says the police should allow the Save Malaysia Movement rally scheduled for this Saturday (Sept 16) to go on.

Syahredzan Johan (PH-Bangi) said although he did not support the rally organised by Perikatan Nasional, the police should allow them to carry on.

“With the House as my witness, I call for the police to allow them to have this rally.

“We have long fought for the right to gather peacefully.

“As long as the rally is peaceful, it should be allowed.

“I don’t want us (Pakatan Harapan) to forget that our battle also began from the streets,” he told the Dewan Rakyat when debating the 12th Malaysia Plan mid-term review (12MP MTR) on Thursday (Sept 14).

This comes after Perikatan Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari announced that the wing would be holding a Save Malaysia Movement rally on Sept 16 to protest the outcome of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s graft cases.

The High Court had granted Ahmad Zahid a discharge not amounting to an acquittal on 47 graft charges involving Yayasan Akalbudi funds.
