Dr M to be 'unofficial advisor' to SG4, says Ahmad Samsuri

PETALING JAYA: Former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is set to become an "unofficial advisor" to an official grouping of the four Perikatan Nasional controlled state governments, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.

Samsuri said the mentris besar of Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah and Perlis would be discussing an action plan for the group that's been called the "State Government 4" or "SG4".

"Specifically, Mahathir will give us advice on effective governance to ensure the proposed grouping will be managed efficiently.

"Dr Mahathir’s role will also be to connect the four states with investors from countries like Japan and South Korea that have good ties with him," he was quoted by a portal after an event in Terengganu on Thursday (Sept 14).

The PAS vice-president had previously announced that the Mentris Besar of Perlis, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu had agreed in principle to form the multi-state government cooperation called SG4 on Monday (Sept 11).

"Strategic cooperation will be according to the jurisdiction of the four states and will focus on economic development and improving the people’s standard of life in the states involved.

"Through identifying available assets and strengths, the strategic cooperation and other future projects can be implemented," he said in the Sept 11 statement.
