Johor authorities to clamp down on heavy vehicles who do not comply with road-use guidelines

JOHOR BARU: Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) will not hesitate to issue compound notices to heavy vehicle owners for violating the rules on the usage of protocol roads.

Johor Baru mayor Datuk Mohd Noorazam Osman said lately there had been damage and dirt on the protocol roads including those within the city centre.

"The damage and dirt on these roads are caused by heavy vehicles carrying sand, cement and material for construction sites," he said in a statement.

Mohd Noorazam said the council would conduct joint-operations with agencies such as the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and Public Works Department (JKR).

He said while the council was aware of the on-going development projects around the city centre, all parties concerned must take responsibility and comply with the existing regulations.

"These include maintaining the cleanliness of the roads and also complying with the usage time of the roads that have been set," added Mohd Noorazam.

He said MBJB has gazetted several roads within the city centre as protocol roads and the roads are the main roads within a local authority that connect other roads in the place.

Mohd Noorazam said the gazettement of the roads was made at the state-level in accordance with Schedule 9 Para 6 of the Federal Constitution.

He said enforcement of the protocol roads is done by way of gazetting them on the limitation and restriction of types of vehicles that are allowed to use the roads.

"These roads must always be in the best condition in terms of infrastructure, cleanliness and well-maintained landscaping," said Mohd Noorazam.

Johor Baru residents can channel related complaints through MBJB SISPAA (mbjb.spab.gov.my), its main line at 07-219 8000, toll free 1-300-88-0416 or via WhatsApp at 019-778 8212.
