KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 22 police reports have been lodged protesting the Save Malaysia rally that will be held in the city on Saturday (Sept 16), says Tan Sri Razarudin Husain (pic).
The Inspector-General of Police said various people made the reports, including business owners, the public and non-government organisations.
"They expressed their displeasure over the rally that will be held on Saturday as it can disrupt business and activities of the public.
"We will investigate accordingly," he said when contacted on Friday (Sept 15).
The organisers have not complied with Section 10 of the Peaceful Assembly Act in submitting a notice to the police, he said.
"This is not the way to save Malaysia. All parties should respect Malaysia Day.
"Our safety is secured. In fact, such protests might disrupt public activities," he added.
The IGP called on the public not to join the rally.
"We received information that people outside KL will join the protest.
"I advise them not to waste their time doing so," he said.
Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid said sufficient personnel will be deployed on Saturday to facilitate and ensure public order.
"We are ready for any eventuality.
"We are not planning to close any roads," he said.
When asked about the possibility of protestors marching, Comm Allaudeen said the police will take necessary action if and when it occurs.
"We feel that everyone should play their part in ensuring safety for all.
"This is not the first protest in KL, thus, we hope all will abide by the laws," he said.
