Bukit Aman seizes over RM30mil worth of illicit cigarettes, alcohol in Selangor

PETALING JAYA: An anti-contraband operation by Bukit Aman saw seizures amounting to over RM30mil in three raids in Selangor.

Bukit Aman's internal security and public order department director, Comm Datuk Seri Hazani Ghazali (pic), said three raids were conducted in Kajang on Sept 7, which busted a major syndicate smuggling untaxed cigarettes and alcohol.

The operation resulted from intelligence from the wildlife crime bureau/special investigation intelligence and the central brigade General Operations Force.

The raids also led to the discovery of two labs that were found to be processing counterfeit alcohol to be sold in the Klang Valley area.

"A total of 10 men comprising five Malaysians and five foreigners were arrested.

"The raid saw a total of 73,800 cartons of cigarettes and 24,573 boxes of liqueur that had not been taxed," he said in a statement on Friday (Sept 15).

Several machines used to process alcohol and three cars were also seized.

In total, the value of the confiscated items is estimated at around RM36,478,585.25," he said. All suspects have been remanded at the Kajang police headquarters.

In a related matter, he said anti-contraband and anti-wildlife smuggling operations have led to the arrests of 3,764 individuals from Jan 1 to Sept 14, 2023.

Contraband confiscated included wild animals and fake medicine with a total estimated value of RM726.4mil.
