Chegubard released after cops record statement

KUALA LUMPUR: Badrul Hisham Shaharin, better known as Chegubard, has been released in the early hours of Friday (Sept 15) after having his statement recorded by the police.

Perikatan Nasional (PN) Youth leader Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said on his Facebook page today that Chegubard was released at 2.15am.

"Alhamdulilah CikguBard (Chegubard) was released this morning at 2.15am after giving his statement.

"Move Forward! Save Malaysia," the post said.

While it had been speculated that the blogger had been picked up by the police over the planned "Save Malaysia Movement" (Gerakan Selamatkan Malaysia) assembly tomorrow, Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, in a press conference last night, clarified that his arrest had nothing to do with it.

"We had to arrest him as he failed to give cooperation in having his statement recorded.

"The reason I'm having this press conference is to refute speculation that Chegubard was arrested due to Saturday's (Sept 16) rally," he told a press conference at Dang Wangi police headquarters on Thursday (Sept 14) night.

Comm Mohd Shuhaily said the blogger was being investigated over several police reports lodged against him including on the leak of documents belonging to a government department and his revelation of assets belonging to the country's leaders.
