Special delivery: Trio from S'gor nabbed in Melaka while attempting to hand over drugs to syndicate

MELAKA: Three Selangor ehailing riders were nabbed while attempting to deliver drug supplies to a cross-boundary smuggling syndicate here.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said the three, all working for separate ehailing service providers including a famous fast food delivery service, were detained during an ambush at noon on Wednesday (Sept 13) at Padang Temu here.

He said the three, two aged 26 years old and a 27 year old, had rented a car and drove from Selangor to deliver the substance to the syndicate's henchman.

"My men acted on a tip-off and tracked the trio.

"Two of the suspects had previous criminal offences relating to drug abuse," he said on Friday(Sept 15).

ACP Christopher Patit said his team also confiscated 20,386g of a substance with an estimated street value of RM672,838.

He said the car rented by the three was also seized bringing the total amount of items confiscated to over RM707,000.

ACP Christopher Patit said that the substance was meant to be supplied to 101,930 addicts in a neighbouring country.

However, he didn't mention the name of the country.

ACP Christopher Patit said the three also tested negative for drugs when screenings were conducted on them.

He said all three have been remanded for seven days until Sept 20 to assist in the investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 which carries a mandatory death penalty or lifetime imprisonment upon conviction.
