Johor govt aims to rescue 13 'sick' housing project worth nearly RM1bil by next year

JOHOR BARU: The Johor State Government is targeting to rescue 13 "sick" housing projects worth close to RM1bil by next year, says Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor.

The Johor Housing and Local Government Committee chairman said that the government had previously introduced a special committee dubbed the Abandoned Project Monitoring Committee (JPST) last year to oversee the rescue operations.

“The committee was introduced last year and consists of the Johor State Housing Development Corporation (PKPJ), 16 local authorities, and all technical agencies under the state government.

“Although the matter is not under the state government's jurisdiction, we have taken the liberty to help the people by organising interventions where we managed to ‘save’ seven housing projects between last year and this year.

“The projects consist of 1,073 units with a total value of RM260mil,” he said in a statement here on Sunday (Sept 17).

Mohd Jafni added that all projects have been granted Certificates of Completion and Compliance (CCC), and the keys have been handed over to their owners.

The seven housing projects are Residensi Prima Kota Tinggi, Taman Kota Jaya 2 Kota Tinggi, Taman Saujana Jaya Kulai, Taman Desa Impian Tenggara, Taman Tanjung Puteri Pasir Gudang, Taman Impiana Kulai, and Taman Desa Kempas Johor Baru.

“As for next year, we are targeting to rescue six sick and abandoned projects that consist of 1,776 units worth RM682mil,” he said, adding that the total rescued properties are valued at RM942mil.

The projects are Taman Desa Tangkak, Taman Sri Unas Permai Muar, Taman Residensi Larkin Indah, Taman Molek Perdana, Taman Impiana Kulai (Phase 2), and Taman Kulai Utama.
