State negotiating more flights from around Asia ahead of Visit Perak Year 2024

IPOH: Perak expects to welcome more flights from countries in Asia as it prepares for Visit Perak Year 2024, says Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

The Perak Mentri Besar said the state government had started discussions with several airlines to set up flights to Sultan Azlan Shah Airport here.

"The matter is also being discussed with the Transport Ministry. We can't reveal the cities yet but it is within Asia," he told reporters after attending the Karnival Mesra Anak Muda at Stadium Indera Mulia here on Sunday (Sept 17).

"State tourism, industry, investment and corridor development committee chairman Loh Sze Yee and public transport committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin are discussing with the airline companies.

"We are waiting for the clearance from the ministry before we announce it," he said, adding that the airport here has daily flights to Singapore and Johor.

On another matter, Saarani said about RM7mil has been allocated to repair and upgrade some run-down tourist attractions in the state.

"Several attractions like the Pasir Salak Historical Complex need renovations and upgrades.

"We have approved the allocation and hopefully it can be completed as soon as possible," he said.

StarMetro in July last year reported the poor conditions of the complex located about 70km from Ipoh.

Visitors had complained about the dilapidated buildings, lack of tour guides and poor road signs to the location.
