Suhaizan Kayat to be sworn in as new Pulai MP on Sept 19

KUALA LUMPUR: Suhaizan Kayat will be sworn in as the Pulai MP on Tuesday (Sept 19).

According to the Parliament calendar, Suhaizan is expected to take his oath as a Dewan Rakyat member at 10am on Tuesday.

On Sept 9, Pakatan Harapan defended the Pulai parliamentary and Simpang Jeram state seats in the by-elections, triggered by the death of Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, who held both constituencies.

Suhaizan secured 48,283 votes, an 18,641-vote majority over his opponents Zulkifli Jaafar from Perikatan Nasional-Bersatu (29,642 votes) and Independent candidate Samsudin Mohamad Fauzi (465).

Salahuddin, 61, who was also the domestic trade and cost of living minister, suffered a brain haemorrhage on Saturday (July 22) and underwent surgery Sunday morning. He passed away on July 23.
