Only the brave ride bulls, Mat Sabu tells Hadi in cheeky response

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu (pic) has invited Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang to ride a bull with him in Spain.

The Agriculture and Food Security Minister said this in a tongue-in-cheek response to the Marang MP who had chided him for riding a bull instead of tackling the rising price of beef.

“In Bachok, I rode a bull. I want to invite Marang. Let’s go to Spain one day and ride the Matador bull. Only brave men dare to ride bulls,” he told the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

In the Dewan Rakyat on Sept 13, Abdul Hadi, who is PAS president, said Mohamad should focus on the price of meat instead of going bull-riding.

Mohamad said the ministry would continue to ensure that every state had food security regardless of which political coalition was in charge.

“The most important thing is cooperation. What we want is sufficient rice for the nation,” he said in his winding-up speech during the debate on the 12th Malaysia Plan mid-term review.

Separately, Mohamad criticised Hulu Terengganu MP Datuk Rosol Wahid for claiming that the price of local white rice had increased.

“(Local) rice has remained at RM26 (per 10kg). You weren’t in the hall when I was speaking. Why are you interjecting without understanding the matter?

“The price of local white rice did not increase. It’s the price of imported white rice that increased. You didn’t listen, yet you come and interrupt. Then, you go back and tell what I said to your constituents,” he said to cheers from the House.

Parliament is currently having a six-day special sitting from Sept 11-19, to debate the 12th Malaysia Plan mid-term review.
