Woman lost RM1.1mil to an online part-time job scam


AMPANG: A company manager lost RM1.1mil to a scam syndicate that offered a part-time job on social media.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail said the 52-year-old woman claimed she got to know a man via WhatsApp last month.

"The suspect then offered her an online part-time job, which requires her to buy various items, and she was promised commissions in return. She received only one commission payment of US$100 (RM458)," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Sept 20).

ACP Mohd Azam said the victim made purchase payments to 14 bank accounts as instructed by the suspect.

"The victim did not get any more commission payment and lost RM1.1mil.We are investigating the case under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating," he said.
