PUTRAJAYA: Two motorcyclists lost their lives and several others were injured when a lorry collided with multiple vehicles in Jalan Persiaran Utara here.

Putrajaya OCPD Asst Comm A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz said the accident occurred at about 10.14am yesterday when the two victims and 11 others stopped their vehicles to make way for a traffic police convoy assigned to Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) escort duty.

“Initial investigations indicate the duo were two men aged 25 and 39.

“Our checks revealed that six other victims who were injured were sent to Hospital Serdang and Hospital Putrajaya for treatment,” he said yesterday.

The lorry driver, responsible for colliding with 11 other vehicles, has been apprehended, confirmed ACP Asmadi.

“A police motorcycle was also heavily damaged along with six cars, three motorcycles and two lorries.

“The traffic policeman, however, did not sustain any injury as he managed to avoid the crash,” he said.

Further investigation is being conducted to identify the cause of the accident, ACP Asmadi said.

“The detained 35-year-old driver has no prior traffic offences on record,” he added.
