Floods cause 178 to be evacuated in Limbang


LIMBANG: A total of 178 people from Kampung Baru, Medamit near here, were evacuated to a relief centre (PPS) on Wednesday (Sept 20) due to floods following continuous rain for the past three days.

Limbang District Civil Defence (APM) Officer, Lieutenant (PA) Mirwan Shah Masri, in a statement today, said Dewan Masyarakat Medamit was opened at 4.30 pm yesterday to accommodate the flood victims.

The evacuees are from 61 families, he said.

Based on the iHydro website on Wednesday morning, the water level at Ukong Station in Limbang exceeded the danger level of 6.50 metres (m) at 7.17m, but is receding.

The water level at Long Teru Station in Miri Division was 7.48m, which is slightly above the warning level of 7m.

Three stations recorded alert levels, namely Sungai Daussan Station in Mukah Division (6.22m), Sungai Salim Station in Sibu Division (2.7 m) and Marudi Station in Miri Division (2.86m). - Bernama
