Bodyguard lands in hot water for posing as cop

KAJANG: A bodyguard has landed himself in trouble after masquerading as a policeman to scare a security guard.

In a statement on Friday (Sept 22), Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zaid Hassan said the victim, a 46-year-old security guard, was on duty at a housing area in Bandar Sungai Long on Sept 20.

"The man had wanted to enter the housing area to see his girlfriend. When asked for his identification so that he could be registered as a visitor, the suspect refused to cooperate.

"After being asked for his identification numerous times, the suspect then said he was a policeman.

"When the victim did not believe the claims, the suspect opened the car door and brandished a handgun on his hip, saying again that he was a policeman.

"The suspect then used threatening words and harsh language, leading the victim to allow him into the housing area out of fear," he said.

Following a report lodged on Thursday (Sept 21) night, a police team arrested a 26-year-old man. A handgun with 10 rounds of ammunition was also seized.

"Checks showed that the suspect was not a policeman, but in fact a bodyguard working with a personal security company.

"The suspect has a letter of permission to carry and use the weapon and ammo, but that was issued for work purposes by the company.

"He does not have a criminal record and he tested negative for drugs," he said.

ACP Mohd Zaid added that the man has been remanded until Sept 25 to assist investigations.
