KUCHING: The Sarawak state government will build a laboratory in every district to strengthen the education of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) among the youth.
Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg (pic) said the decision to build the facilities was taken due to the unsatisfactory conditions of the state's school labs, adding that they would be shared by the schools within each district.
"I find that schools in Sarawak do not have fully equipped labs, except for Science schools. Labs are essential for the learning of biology, chemistry, and physics.
"Fully equipped labs are important because learning through just books is different from practical methods," he said during the Kuching zone Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) special party convention, here on Saturday (Sept 23).
Abang Johari said in addition to strengthening STEM education in schools, the state government had also established the Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (CENTEXS) in an effort to produce more Sarawakians skilled in STEM. - Bernama
